In a statement published on 20 February 2026 the EVG works group at DB Systel, the Deutsche Bahn IT subsidiary with about 7,200 employees in Frankfurt, Berlin and Erfurt, warned of unconfirmed plans to cut up to 4,000 jobs and to break up the company in whole or in part; according to the union, the company had already announced in September 2025 that it would shed 1,900 full-time posts by the end of 2029. On 25 February 2026 several hundred employees protested at the three sites, with more than 500 participants in Frankfurt, where the chair of the central works council spoke of up to 1,400 and possibly 1,900 jobs being lost. At a top-level meeting with the DB board scheduled for 11 March 2026, the union says the break-up was ruled out, while the employer announced job cuts to become more efficient; the report gives no figure (LOK Report, 20 Feb to 12 Mar 2026; second source: heise online, 19 Feb 2026).
