Event
On 26 Jan 2026 the state of Rhineland-Palatinate reports having drawn more than EUR 200 million from the federal GVFG programme for rail infrastructure in 2025

This is about 10.5 per cent of the national volume and the highest amount the state has ever received (fifth among the states). EUR 191 million went into electrifying the Eifel and Ahr valley lines; funds are also to flow into the Homburg–Zweibrücken reactivation, electrification in the Palatinate and on the Moselle, and the northern Palatinate and Westerwald.

Rhineland-Palatinate drew more GVFG money for rail in 2025 than ever before: more than EUR 200 million, roughly a tenth of the federal programme. The focus was the Eifel region with EUR 191 million for electrifying the Eifel and Ahr valley lines; in the south the money went mainly into light-rail systems (LOK Report, 26 Jan 2026).
