The extension of the Berlin tram from Hauptbahnhof via Rathenower Straße and Turmstraße to Turmstraße U-Bahn station in Moabit entered passenger service on 9 September 2023, closing a historic east–west gap in the tram network. The new section is about 1.1 km long (single-track); planning approval came in January 2021, construction started in 2021, and it was completed in summer 2023. Actual ridership significantly exceeded the forecast of nearly 10,000 daily passengers within just a few weeks of opening.
