At the end of 2025 the Baden-Württemberg transport ministry concludes financing contracts for locally operated branch lines, applying retroactively to 2025; the state provides about EUR 130 million from regionalisation funds up to 2031

The plan is EUR 15 million a year for 2025 and 2026 and EUR 20 million a year from 2027 to 2031. Beneficiaries include the RNV/OEG network, the Albtalbahn and Hardtbahn, Schönbuchbahn, Strohgäubahn, Wieslauftalbahn and Tälesbahn; reactivated lines get a bonus from 2027.

This is the first time the state joins in financing lines previously carried by districts and municipalities; the largest extra contribution, just over EUR 5.3 million a year in 2025/26, goes to the RNV/OEG network around Mannheim, Heidelberg and Weinheim (LOK Report, 23 Jan 2026).
