The Schleswig-Holstein government plans to invest about EUR 140 million from the federal special fund in the ports of Brunsbüttel, Kiel, Lübeck, Büsum and Hörnum

Quays are to be renewed by 2030: Kiel Ostuferhafen (6.5 ha of logistics area by 2028, EUR 45 million), Brunsbüttel Elbehafen (about EUR 50 million), Lübeck (EUR 9 million for shore power), Büsum (EUR 59 million from 2027), Hörnum (EUR 20 million, subject to conditions).

Minister Claus Ruhe Madsen presented a port package of about EUR 140 million from the federal debt-financed special fund. The largest items start in 2026 in Kiel (Ostuferhafen extension, EUR 27 million in funding) and Brunsbüttel (deep-water quay, about EUR 25 million in funding); Brunsbüttel is the first privately owned port to receive support. Madsen calls for the federal share of EUR 2 million a year to be increased tenfold. (LOK Report, 26 Jan 2026)
