The Karlsruhe regional council issues the Karlsruhe transport company VBK a grant notice of about EUR 35.3 million from federal and state GVFG funds for the basic renewal of the tram routes Karl-Wilhelm-Strasse–Waldstadt and Schillerstrasse–Oberreut/Badeniaplatz

The federal government pays EUR 28.2 million and the state EUR 7.1 million. Track and substructure, overhead wires, points, signalling and level-crossing equipment and stop lighting are renewed; the state adds about EUR 8.13 million for step-free stops in Waldstadt.

Construction in Waldstadt is due to start in the Whitsun holidays of 2026, in Schillerstrasse also in 2026, and in Karl-Wilhelm-Strasse and Haid-und-Neu-Strasse probably in 2027; the report gives no completion date (LOK Report, 10 Dec 2025).
