Under construction (civil works since late 2025; first stage planned for the start of 2027)

CargoBeamer took over operation of the existing Kaldenkirchen terminal from its previous operator in April 2026 and is expanding it into its first own terminal in Germany (announced on 29 April 2026); civil works have been running on schedule since late 2025 while train operations largely continue. With automated horizontal transhipment technology, the first of two construction stages is meant to double capacity to about 140,000 loading units a year at the start of 2027, and the full build-out is to exceed 200,000; semi-trailers are so far handled by reach stackers, and 20 round trips a week run between Kaldenkirchen and Domodossola. The date is a placeholder: the article names only the start of 2027 for the first stage, the full build-out is undated, and no investment figure is given (LOK Report, 29 Apr 2026).
