- On 4 December 2025 Baden-Württemberg issues Karlsruhe's transport company VBK a grant notice for EUR 17.49 million under the state municipal transport financing act for renewing and extending the Turmbergbahn funicular
The funicular has been out of service since the end of 2024; it is to be modernised, made step-free and extended to Grötzinger Strasse. The state adds EUR 1.755 million for two new cars with 70 places each.
The grants enable the next project step: in spring 2026 the old track and valley station are to be removed first, followed by construction of the new track and the upper and valley stations. After the rebuild, automatic operation and integration into the KVV fare system are planned; the city gives no completion date (LOK Report, 7 Dec 2025).
