- The state of Baden-Württemberg hands Stuttgarter Strassenbahnen AG (SSB) a funding notice of almost EUR 56 million for 30 light-rail vehicles of the S-DT8.17 series
The money from the state municipal transport financing act covers about 35% of the expected cost; for the 70 vehicles of the S-DT8.16 and S-DT8.17 series together, SSB receives around EUR 140 million in state funding.
Transport minister Winfried Hermann handed SSB a funding notice of almost EUR 56 million on 16 January 2026. The state is thereby backing 30 additional S-DT8.17 light-rail vehicles, which will partly replace older stock and partly enlarge the fleet; the LGVFG money covers roughly 35% of the expected cost. Across all 70 vehicles of the S-DT8.16 and S-DT8.17 series, state grants add up to about EUR 140 million (LOK Report, 5 Feb 2026).
