- On 10 November 2025 the State of Baden-Württemberg, the districts of Konstanz and Bodenseekreis and Deutsche Bahn sign, in Überlingen, the financing agreement for the design and approval planning for the upgrade and electrification of the Bodensee Belt Railway
The planning phases are funded with EUR 42.9 million: the state pays half, Bodenseekreis 30 and Konstanz district 20 per cent. Preliminary planning puts the total cost of the upgrade (overhead wires, several double-track sections, station rebuilds, three new stations) at about EUR 650 million (2022 prices).
Announced on 10 November 2025: the four partners signed the agreement for design and approval planning (phases 3 and 4); next, DB will tender the general planner, followed by surveys on noise, vibration and ground conditions. The transport ministry expects approval planning to finish only in 2030, so a state MP expects a building permit in 2032 at the earliest and criticises a two-year delay; the reports give no completion date (LOK Report, 10 Nov 2025).
