To prepare for the battery trains planned for the RE 10 (RheinRuhrBahn), due for delivery at the end of 2028, DB InfraGO is adapting the Krefeld–Kleve line. It bundles all works from September 2028: an overhead-line charging island in Kleve, a new turning track at Geldern, upgraded stabling facilities at Kleve and Geldern, and adjusted platforms at nine stations between Kempen and Kleve. Longer closures in 2026 and 2027 are dropped; this year only a one-week closure from 30 October to 6 November 2026 remains. The date is a placeholder: it stands for the end of the works window in December 2028; no costs are stated. Announced on 23 June 2026 (LOK Report, 23 Jun 2026).
