Bohai and Schlote to close plants in Harzgerode and Wernigerode

Auto supplier Bohai Automotive, insolvent since April 2025, will cease operations in Harzgerode entirely with effect from 31.01.2027; according to the insolvency administrator, around 550 employees at Bohai and three sister companies are affected. Because the Schlote companies in Harzgerode and Wernigerode, which depend on Bohai's business, are also closing, around 730 jobs will go in total according to dpa. Despite an international search for investors and support from major customers, not enough new orders could be secured; a last promising bidder pulled out (Brinkmann & Partner, 28.09.2026; dpa/t-online, 29.09.2026).
