DB modernises Freiburg main station by December 2028

With the ground-breaking on 14 September 2026, DB has started rebuilding Freiburg main station: the northern pedestrian underpass is being extended and fitted with five new lifts, and platforms 3, 4 and 5 are being renewed with new roofs. Works are expected to run until December 2028 and cost about EUR 36.7 million; the city contributes EUR 1.1 million, the state about EUR 7.8 million and the Freiburg regional transport association roughly EUR 1.6 million. The underpass is fully closed during construction (LOK Report, 18 Sep 2026).
