Construction stage 2 of the Berlin–Dresden upgrade line covers about 45 km in three sections: Blankenfelde (exclusive) to Wünsdorf-Waldstadt, Doberlug-Kirchhain station, and Elsterwerda to Großenhain Berliner Bahnhof. Planning approval decisions were issued in October and December 2025 for the Doberlug-Kirchhain and Elsterwerda–Großenhain sections respectively, while documents for the northern Blankenfelde–Wünsdorf-Waldstadt section are being revised due to impacts on a moorland near Zossen. In April 2026 Deutsche Bahn announced that full commissioning of stage 2 would slip from the original 2029 target to around the end of 2033.
