United Internet to cut 800 jobs at 1&1 Versatel and IONOS

United Internet is launching transformation programmes at two subsidiaries: IONOS (Karlsruhe) is to shrink from about 3,800 to 3,350 full-time positions (450 jobs) and 1&1 Versatel (Düsseldorf) from about 1,350 to roughly 1,000 (350 jobs). The cuts are to be delivered mainly through voluntary programmes; one-off costs are about €95m in 2026, with annual savings of around €55m expected afterwards, and at IONOS the money is to be redirected into AI products and cloud expansion. 1&1 lowered its 2026 EBITDA guidance from €800m to €740m because of the special charges (group statement of 10.09.2026 as reported by dpa/t-online, 12.09.2026; ka-news, 14.09.2026). The figures cover the companies as a whole, not only Germany.
