The planning approval decision has been legally final since December 2024, and the federal government granted the construction permit in December 2025, though actual construction has not yet started. The adjoining eastern section Heiligenhaus–Velbert, already opened in 2018, is 4.6 km long; completion of the full gap closure is expected around 2029.
