Pledge of €40 billion on top of roughly €34 billion the Emirates have already invested in Germany; according to industry minister Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber the focus is on data centres with around 1 GW of capacity, energy supply and supply chains, offshore wind and LNG offtake contracts. In parallel, companies from both countries signed 29 letters of intent and agreements worth more than €9.36 billion; a German-Emirati investment council is to oversee implementation. This is a political pledge without named individual projects, sites or timeline — no concrete investments yet.
Announced during the state visit of UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Chancellor Merz on 10–11 September 2026 (Tagesspiegel, 11 September 2026; second source Berliner Zeitung: https://www.berliner-zeitung.de/article/emirate-investieren-40-milliarden-euro-in-deutschland-berlin-bekommt-neuen-direktflug-nach-dubai-10381353). Both sides also agreed a strategic dialogue on defence, trade, energy and AI. No headcount is recorded because no individual projects are named. Update (11.09.2026): Bavarian premier Markus Söder put Bavaria's share of the pledge at €10 billion over ten years for the first time — a quarter of the total — spread across aerospace, AI, defence, life sciences and automotive. No concrete projects or sites were named (Handelsblatt, 11.09.2026).
