Deutsche Bahn (DB InfraGO) replaced 1950s-era signal box technology on the Saarbrücken–Karthaus line with modern electronic signal boxes (ESTW). A new ESTW substation was built at Dillingen (Saar) station, linked to external signalling facilities at Bous, Ensdorf and Saarlouis, remotely controlled from the Karlsruhe operations centre, and bidirectional track running (Gleiswechselbetrieb) was enabled. Construction stages 1 and 2 were completed between 2017 and 2019; an independent signal-box database confirms remote control of Ensdorf went live on 19 August 2019. No specific investment figure is given in the source.
