The Dom-Römer project reconstructed Frankfurt's historic old town between 2012 and 2018 on a roughly 7,000 m² site between Römerberg square and the cathedral, where the Technical Town Hall previously stood. It comprises 35 buildings — 15 reconstructed historic houses and 20 modern new buildings — at a total cost of around EUR 200 million. On 9 May 2018 the construction fences were removed and the new quarter opened to the public, followed by a three-day opening festival in September 2018 that drew up to 300,000 visitors.
