Elztalbahn near Freiburg enters electric service

On 14 November 2021 the newly electrified, roughly 19 km Elztalbahn line (Denzlingen–Waldkirch–Elzach) went into service, with a new 23 km overhead line carried by about 320 masts. It was the final piece of the "Breisgau S-Bahn 2020" project in the Freiburg region; the federal government, the State of Baden-Württemberg and the Zweckverband Regio-Nahverkehr Freiburg invested roughly EUR 68.5 million.
