DB InfraGO has been restoring the Hunsrück cross-line between Langenlonsheim and Büchenbeuren since 2023, renewing about 40 km of track and the surfacing of 45 level crossings. The reopening has slipped several times: in January 2026 the plan was August 2026, in June it became end of October 2026 because of poor ground conditions; on 9 September 2026 DB said that around 60 culverts need extra repairs and the line is now expected to open only in autumn 2027. No freight paths have been requested for 2026. The date is a placeholder: only autumn 2027 is given (LOK Report, 9 Sep 2026).
