The general renovation of the Munich–Rosenheim–Salzburg line is part of Deutsche Bahn's "Korridorsanierung Bayern" programme and comprises two sections on different schedules: Rosenheim–Salzburg (about 37 track-km, 9 stations) will be fully closed and rebuilt from 7 February to 9 July 2027, with construction contracts already awarded and preliminary works under way. The Munich–Rosenheim section, however, is still in the planning phase and, per DB's official project page, is currently slated for 2028 or later, meaning the overall project likely extends beyond the end-2027 target. Work covers tracks, switches, overhead lines, signalling/interlocking technology and stations; a specific ETCS rollout for this corridor and an investment figure are not stated in the available official sources. Update (3 Jul 2026): DB InfraGO has revised the concept for Munich–Rosenheim and will now overhaul the section in two stages, in 2027/2028 and in the first half of 2031. In the first stage (preparatory closures from autumn 2027, then mid-February to mid-April 2028 with an eight-week full closure of the main-line tracks) it replaces relay interlockings with electronic ones, which enter service in 2028/2029; the second stage renews tracks, switches, overhead line, bridges and stations and equips the corridor with ETCS. For Rosenheim–Freilassing (7 February to 9 July 2027, about 40 km of track, four bridges, five interlockings, seven stations) the construction work has been awarded, and preparations are under way with the contractors Leonhard Weiss, Swietelsky and European Trans Energy and with Siemens Mobility; BEG plans to publish the regional-transport concept in the autumn. The date is a placeholder: only the first half of 2031 is given for the second stage, and its end is used. (LOK Report, 31 May and 3 Jul 2026)
