Event
On 6 November 2025 Baden-Württemberg, the districts of Heidenheim and Ostalbkreis, the city of Ulm and Deutsche Bahn sign the financing agreement for planning phases 1 to 4 for the upgrade and electrification of the Brenz Railway between Aalen, Heidenheim and Ulm

Planning costs come to about EUR 63.02 million; the state pays EUR 34.60 million and the local partners together about EUR 28.42 million. Total project costs are currently put at about EUR 600 million; the line is to be funded under the GVFG municipal transport funding act, and Bavaria has pledged a contribution.

Announced on 6 November 2025: the 72 km single-track, non-electrified line is to be partly upgraded and electrified so that the express runs hourly instead of every two hours and three new stops (Ulm-Messe, Aalen Süd, Oberkochen Süd) are built. DB will first plan for about five and a half years, followed by roughly three years of approval proceedings; the report gives no completion date (LOK Report, 6 Nov 2025).
