On 8 September 2024, Deutsche Bahn completed the comprehensive modernization of the Chemnitz Bahnbogen, a 2.8 km section of the Saxony–Franconia line in Chemnitz. Rather than rebuilding it, the listed viaduct (built 1901-1910, 275 m long) was refurbished; the project also delivered four new reinforced-concrete railway overpasses, two barrier-free stops (Chemnitz Mitte and Chemnitz Süd), and roughly 1.9 km of new noise barriers. A specific investment figure is not stated in the available sources.
