DB RegioNetz Erzgebirgsbahn energised the overhead line on the roughly 2.6 km section between Chemnitz Hauptbahnhof and Chemnitz Süd on 28 February 2026, so freight trains now run electrically there. The works comprised 57 masts, about 6,500 m of contact wire and a new remote-control substation, plus adjustments to signalling and control systems. It is the first stage of the planned continuous electrification to Aue; electric passenger operation is still at the planning stage. (LOK Report, 2 Apr 2026)
