Rhine Valley Railway near Freiburg: sections 8.5–8.9 in planning

Planning sections 8.5 to 8.9 cover the upgrade of the existing Rheintalbahn between Teningen and Buggingen near Freiburg im Breisgau, roughly 45 km, for speeds up to 200 km/h, including a new tunnel at the winding Batzenberg section; part of the overall ~200 km, EU co-financed Karlsruhe–Basel expansion project on the Rotterdam–Genoa corridor. The section is currently in the planning phase; construction is scheduled to start from 2032, after completion of the Freiburg freight bypass, with planned completion by end of 2038.
