Expedia Group is carrying out job cuts; affected are programme managers and engineers in the Seattle region and other locations. About a fifth of the product team's staff is affected. Reason: simplifying the structure, reducing organisational layers, agility and accountability. CEO Ariane Gorin describes AI as a 'step function' for increasing efficiency; there have already been improvements in product development, technology and customer service. Expedia had 16,500 employees at the end of 2024 across nearly 50 countries. This is part of several waves of layoffs over the past two years (2024: ~3% of the workforce, another round in 2025).
