Automation of the distribution centers leads to efficiency gains and cost reduction. Reduction of complexity in logistics processes. Acceleration of product handling and evaluation. Transformation of Nike's supply chain in connection with technologization.

775 employees at distribution centres in Tennessee and Mississippi are directly affected. This follows an earlier round of lay-offs in summer 2025 (around 1,000 jobs). The restructuring is part of a strategic realignment under former CEO John Donahoe, who had bet heavily on direct sales and in-house distribution. Weak business performance (falling revenue in China), high costs and margin pressure form the backdrop.
