Depot to shut down entirely, affecting 730 remaining jobs

The insolvent operating company GDC Deutschland GmbH (Großostheim) announced on 26 August 2026 that it will cease all operations of the Depot home-decor chain on 30 September 2026 and terminate all employment and lease contracts; the roughly 730 remaining employees are affected. Owner Christian Gries cited insufficiency of the insolvency estate in the self-administration proceedings running since May 2026 and plans to relaunch the brand through a new company with a much smaller store network (Berliner Zeitung, 26 August 2026). Follow-up to 70eb7320 (1 August 2026: 330 staff released) — the 730 are the workforce remaining after that, not double-counted.
