On 17 July 2026 the Saxony-Anhalt state secretary for infrastructure hands over in Leipzig a funding notice of about EUR 2.14 million from the federal STARK programme to the European Metropolitan Region Central Germany and the Mitteldeutscher Verkehrsverbund for the SMOViE project

The project, running to the end of 2029, is meant to help companies in the Central German coal region become more accessible to skilled workers (about EUR 1.82 million for the MDV, just over EUR 322,000 for the EMMD).

The cross-border SMOViE project (Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia) receives about EUR 2.14 million from the federal STARK programme for structural change in coal regions. Until the end of 2029 the Metropolitan Region Central Germany and the MDV transport association will work with companies to analyse their mobility needs and develop suitable services, including for commuters crossing state borders.
