Deutsche Bahn expanded the roughly 6 km Gäubahn section between Horb am Neckar and Neckarhausen to double track and built the new ESTW-A Horb electronic interlocking; the project (client DB Netz AG, approx. EUR 19 million, construction Sept 2021–March 2024, delivered by a joint venture of Eiffage Infra-Süd and Salcef Bau GmbH) is part of the "Digital Node Stuttgart" program. Weather- and staffing-related delays meant the line initially reopened single-track on 28 March 2024, with full double-track commissioning planned for the 15 December 2024 timetable change.
