DB Cargo sells about 6,000 freight wagons to GATX and leases them back

DB Cargo has concluded a sale-and-lease-back deal with wagon lessor GATX Rail Europe for about 6,000 freight wagons, which the competition authorities have cleared; the signing and clearance were celebrated at DB Cargo's headquarters in Mainz on 10 November 2025. DB Cargo hands over the wagons and leases them back for several years, so they remain fully available for customer traffic; the rental share of its freight wagon fleet rises to about 20%, and the GATX Rail Europe fleet grows to about 36,500 wagons.
