The 500 MW Al Kamil I solar plant is being developed by a consortium led by France's EDF Power Solutions, which acts as project developer and sponsor. Construction itself is handled by Chinese EPC contractor Shanxi Installation Group (contract value around RMB 1.5 billion); the French involvement therefore sits at the development and sponsor level rather than in construction or component supply.
Al Kamil I is one of the solar IPP schemes with which Oman is diversifying its power mix; the offtaker is state-owned Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP). The EPC contract was signed on 14 July 2026. European involvement is limited to project development by the EDF-led consortium.
