Sarajevo opens new tram line to Hrasnica

On 27 September 2026 Sarajevo opened the new double-track tram line of about 6.5 km from Ilidža to Hrasnica, the city's first new tram route since 1962; a first test run had taken place on 20 August 2026. A Turkish consortium of Yapı Merkezi and Yapıray built it for the cantonal transport ministry, financed by a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development; the new line 11 runs from Baščaršija to Hrasnica roughly every 11 minutes on weekdays. The canton is now preparing a line from Nedžarić to Dobrinja and the airport, with trams expected to reach Dobrinja by 2030 (Lok-Report, 1 Oct 2026).
