Chief financial officer Fredrik Hansson said the reductions will come through voluntary departures and a very restrictive hiring policy. Update (21 Sep 2026): According to The Slovak Spectator, testing that had already been under way in parts of the plant was extended to final assembly on 21 Sep 2026, so test vehicles now pass through the whole production process; they are for testing and development, not for sale.
Indian commercial-vehicle maker Tata Motors had already agreed to acquire Italian truck maker Iveco Group in July 2025. After Italy's market regulator Consob approved the offer document, the voluntary all-cash tender offer of EUR 14.10 per common share (cum dividend, total value around EUR 3.82 billion) opened on 7 September 2026 through the bidding entity TML CV Holdings B.V.; the acceptance period runs until 26 October 2026. Exor (the Agnelli family) has irrevocably committed to tender roughly 27.06% of the common shares, representing 43.19% of all voting rights. The minimum acceptance threshold is 95%, automatically reduced to 80% if the extraordinary general meeting of 16 October 2026 approves the Back-End Resolution; according to the offeror, financing for the entire offer price is committed. The 2025 agreement had not been recorded in the tracker. Source replaced (20 Sep 2026): the original source (indiaipo.in) returns HTTP 410 and was replaced by an equivalent reference (Outlook Business, 5 Sep 2026). Update (9 Oct 2026): Tata raised the offer to EUR 14.40 per share as its "best and final" price (total value around EUR 3.91 billion if all shares are tendered) because regulatory approvals are taking longer; the acceptance period still ends on 26 October 2026 (Autocar Professional, 10 Oct 2026). Update (27 Oct 2026): At the close of the acceptance period on 26 October 2026, provisional figures show about 87.81% of the ordinary share capital tendered, above the minimum threshold lowered to 80%; confirmation of the results and the remaining conditions is pending, and the period is due to reopen from 2 to 6 November 2026 (Rankia Italia, 27 Oct 2026). — Sources: https://www.outlookbusiness.com/corporate/tata-motors-launches-tender-offer-for-iveco-acceptance-opens-sep-7 · https://www.autocarpro.in/news/tata-motors-raises-iveco-takeover-offer-price-to-euro-1440-per-share-135155 · https://rankia.it/opa-iveco/

On 7/8 September 2026 JLR announced it will cut up to 4,000 jobs over two years through a voluntary redundancy programme aimed mainly at its roughly 26,000 salaried and management staff. The aim is GBP 1.7 billion in savings and a lower break-even of 300,000 vehicles; the group cites Chinese competition, tariffs and the lingering effects of the 2025 cyberattack. The UK government announced a meeting between the business secretary and JLR's leadership (ITV, 7 September 2026). Definitive entry; the 30 July 2026 announcement ('several hundred jobs', entry 095cc18e) is treated as an earlier stage of the same programme and no longer carries a figure. Addition (source dated 7 Sept 2026): The cuts correspond to around 9% of the roughly 43,000 staff worldwide and are expected to fall mainly on the UK head office; according to the company, manufacturing staff are not included in the programme (What Car?, 7 Sept 2026). — Source: https://www.wardsauto.com/news/jlr-confirms-4000-job-cuts-citing-significant-challenges/829753/

On the evening of Thursday 3 September 2026 VW's supervisory board unanimously approved management's 'Zukunftsplan 2030': on top of the 50,000 job cuts already agreed in 2024, around 50,000 further positions are to go worldwide — roughly half of them in Germany — bringing total cuts by 2030 to about 100,000; compulsory redundancies are ruled out. The four sites Emden, Zwickau, Hanover and Neckarsulm have no competitive follow-on product allocation from 2031–2034; according to the works council no plant closure has been sealed, and management is to work out concrete solutions by mid-2027. Investments of EUR 135 billion in fixed assets and R&D (2027–2031) are also planned; target margin 9% by 2030 (AFP, 4 September 2026; Personalwirtschaft, 10 September 2026). Definitive decision following the reported stage since June 2026 (entry 04211820, recorded there without a figure). Update (26 Oct 2026): According to media reports, the board wants to cut a further 12,000 jobs at the Volkswagen brand by 2030 and offer staff a voluntary move into a state-subsidised transfer company; the works council and IG Metall reject this, and industrial action is possible from the turn of the year. Whether the 12,000 are part of the 50,000 is open, so the figure is not counted separately (Personalwirtschaft, 26 Oct 2026). — Sources: https://de.finance.yahoo.com/nachrichten/aufsichtsrat-volkswagen-stimmt-sanierungsplan-massiver-192009815.html · https://www.personalwirtschaft.de/news/hr-organisation/vw-zukunftsplan-2030-abbau-von-weiteren-50000-stellen-201637/

On 29 July 2026 BMW unveiled a voluntary severance programme intended to reduce its global workforce by around 8,000 positions. Administration and development functions are affected — production is exempt — with the focus on Munich (the FIZ research and innovation centre, some 25,000 staff), Regensburg, Dingolfing and Leipzig. The programme runs from October 2026 to the end of 2027, costs several hundred million euros and is expected to deliver annual savings of about €1bn from 2028; no compulsory redundancies are planned. BMW cites weaker business in China, intensified competition from Chinese manufacturers and the structural transformation of the industry; the group cut its profit guidance in June 2026. The figure of roughly 8,000 jobs is reported by several independent outlets (Euronews, CNBC/Reuters, Bloomberg). Update (15 Oct 2026): According to a regional report, BMW has paused the severance programme in Germany for now because too many employees want to take part; applications already submitted are still being processed. This is a permitting milestone on an already running €4.1bn project rather than a new investment announcement: around 500 people currently work on the construction phase (peaking at up to 1,700), and the finished plant is to employ some 4,000 people producing 50 GWh of capacity a year.
On 27 July 2026 the Executive Board and General Works Council of Porsche AG — together with IG Metall and the Suedwestmetall employers' association — agreed on a 'Future Package'. Porsche thereby officially confirms for the first time the figures that were still only reporting in the 22 July entry: a further 5,000 jobs will go by 2035, according to the press release in a socially responsible way and largely through natural attrition, demographic effects, an expanded partial-retirement programme and voluntary severance agreements. In return Porsche extends employment and site protection until 2035 and plans to invest a cumulative 2.1 billion euros in the Zuffenhausen and Weissach sites. The package is the basis for the 'Sportwagenschmiede 35' strategy, which is to be presented in detail at a Capital Markets Day in October. Update (21 Sept 2026), single-source reporting: According to a Handelsblatt report, the Volkswagen Group is considering reducing headcount in the "Sport Luxury" brand group (which includes Porsche) by around 4,100 staff — on top of the agreements already in place. The figures reportedly come from documents on a VW supervisory board resolution of early September; a cut of 4,100 Porsche jobs is therefore explicitly not yet decided. The figure is accordingly not recorded here as an affected-employee count (Handelsblatt via Das Verbraucherschutzforum, 20 Sept 2026). Update (21 September 2026): Porsche CEO Michael Leiters rejected the Handelsblatt report in an internal message seen by Reuters — no further 4,000 jobs are to go, and the total remains 5,000 by 2035. He confirmed the full-year guidance (€35–36bn revenue, 5.5–7.5% operating margin); the capital markets day is set for 7 October 2026 (Reuters via onvista, 21 September 2026). Update (7 Oct 2026): At its Capital Markets Day Porsche put the socially responsible job reduction agreed with employee representatives at around 9,000 positions, combined with job security for the core workforce until 2035; in the medium term the workforce in direct and indirect areas is to shrink by 25% (strategic target 30%) and management positions by around 40%. The release does not say whether the 9,000 positions include the reduction steps agreed earlier. Cellforce (development and production), Porsche eBike Performance and Cetitec are to be shut down, and the sale of MHP to Tata Consultancy Services has been signed (Porsche Newsroom, 7 Oct 2026). — Sources: https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/2026/company/porsche-executive-board-general-works-council-future-package-42938.html · https://newsroom.porsche.com/de/2026/unternehmen/porsche-capital-markets-day-strategie-sportwagenschmiede-35-43418.html

Ford and China's Geely are setting up a joint venture at Ford's Almussafes plant near Valencia, in operation since 1976: Geely takes 34% via its subsidiary Geely SPV, Ford retains 66%. From 2028 the site is to build three Ford multi-energy models and two electric Geely models; the plant is designed for 400,000 to 500,000 vehicles a year and ranks among Europe's largest vehicle factories. Subject to regulatory approvals, the joint venture is due to start operating in the first half of 2027. It gives Geely its first EU production base and the Spanish site a long-term utilisation outlook. The €221m purchase price (implying a plant valuation of around €650m) is not stated in the company announcement; it comes from press reporting (Infobae/EFE, Automotive News Europe). Update (24 Oct 2026): According to Motor16, China's competition regulator approved Geely's entry (34%, Ford 66%, joint control) without conditions; the JV start remains planned for H1 2027.

Reported (Manager Magazin/Bild, 22 July 2026): Porsche CEO Michael Leiters plans to double the current savings programme and cut an additional 5,000 to 6,000 jobs by 2035 — on top of the roughly 3,900–4,000 already announced. In return, employment protection for the remaining workforce until 2035 is said to be under discussion; no agreement with the works council and IG Metall has been reached yet, and Porsche declined to comment officially. At the end of 2025 Porsche employed around 42,000 people worldwide. Several independent outlets (including Reuters syndications and onvista) picked up the report. Update (23 July 2026): The supervisory board approved a new 'future package' on 22 July. Across all rounds the cuts add up to nearly 9,000 positions according to media reports (heise, Reuters, Bild, Manager Magazin) — around 3,900 from the programme already under way, some 2,000 expired fixed-term contracts, plus the new 5,000–6,000 by 2035. The Weissach development centre is to cut capacity by about 30%; three subsidiaries will also be closed: Cellforce Group (battery cells, around 50 employees), Porsche eBike Performance (around 350) and Cetitec (software, around 90). In return, employment protection is to be extended from 2030 to 2035. Porsche did not officially confirm the specific figures, describing them as 'final steps' still to be agreed — the numbers therefore remain reporting rather than confirmation. — Note: this reported plan was officially confirmed on 27 July 2026 by the agreement between the executive board and the general works council (5,000 jobs by 2035). The figure is therefore no longer recorded here, so that the same jobs are counted only once in the key figures; the entry of 27 July 2026 is the authoritative one. The additional details documented here (Weissach capacity cut by around 30%, closure of Cellforce Group, Porsche eBike Performance and Cetitec) are retained as evidence. — Source: https://www.onvista.de/news/2026/07-22-bericht-porsche-will-5000-weitere-jobs-streichen-0-20-26534884

VW's supervisory board stopped CEO Blume's restructuring plan ('Group Target Picture') including the proposed closure of four German plants (Hanover, Zwickau, Emden, Neckarsulm) at its 9 July meeting: 12 of the 20 board members voted against, with employee representatives and the state of Lower Saxony using their veto rights. The closures are averted for now; talks on alternative savings measures continue after the summer break. Multiply confirmed reporting (Correctiv, wallstreetONLINE and others). UPDATE (24 July 2026): At the half-year results — his first public appearance since the supervisory board meeting — CEO Blume called the circulating figure of around 50,000 jobs affected worldwide a 'theoretical derivation' and reaffirmed that he is seeking 'intelligent solutions' rather than plant closures; the four sites remain affected. No new decisions were taken; according to Manager Magazin the plans are to be resubmitted in September, with works meetings planned for late August beforehand. UPDATE (4 September 2026): The supervisory board unanimously approved the 'Zukunftsplan 2030' with around 50,000 additional job cuts worldwide (see layoffs entry dated 4 September 2026). Emden, Zwickau, Hanover and Neckarsulm have no competitive follow-on product allocation from 2031–2034; according to the works council no plant closure has been sealed — management is to work out concrete solutions for the four sites by mid-2027 (AFP). — Source: https://correctiv.org/aktuelles/wirtschaft/2026/07/10/blumes-umbauplaene-scheitern-im-vw-aufsichtsrat/

According to media reports, VW's management board is considering cutting up to 100,000 jobs (around 15 percent of the group's workforce) as well as closing four plants. The background is weak demand and intensified competition from Chinese manufacturers. Update 10 July 2026: The supervisory board rejected the savings package by 12 votes to 7 (the employee side plus Lower Saxony) and postponed the decision on plant closures; group CEO Blume nonetheless wants to push ahead with the realignment, and IG Metall mobilised with a nationwide day of protest. Update 13 July 2026: Group CEO Blume quantified the restructuring himself for the first time — without changes to labour costs, around 50,000 additional jobs worldwide would be at risk according to an intranet interview, on top of the 50,000 already agreed in Germany (reportedly, including Reuters/Tagesspiegel). Update 13 Jul 2026: In an internal memo, CEO Blume for the first time himself put the possible additional cuts at around 50,000 jobs worldwide (on top of the 50,000 already agreed through 2030) unless labor costs come down. Update 24 July 2026: Presenting the half-year results, CFO Arno Antlitz for the first time publicly put the possible additional cuts at around 50,000 jobs (previously communicated only internally by Blume) — together with the 50,000 already agreed through 2030 this gives the order of magnitude of up to 100,000. First-half operating profit fell 12% to €5.9bn and profit after tax 31% to €3.1bn; the 2026 revenue guidance was cut from up to +3% to as much as −3%. Antlitz called the margin of roughly 4% a 'wake-up call' requiring a second restructuring step, and did not commit on plant closures (sources: CNBC, CNN, AFP/France24, 24 July 2026). Update 4 September 2026: The supervisory board unanimously approved the 'Zukunftsplan 2030' — around 50,000 additional jobs worldwide by 2030 (separate follow-up entry dated 4 September 2026, which carries the figure). — Source: https://www.euronews.com/business/2026/06/26/100000-jobs-and-four-plants-volkswagen-reportedly-plans-radical-overhaul

Tesla Gigafactory Grünheide: the number of employees fell from 12,415 (works council election 2024) to 10,703 (currently) = ~14% decline. This corresponds to ~1,700 jobs lost, well above Elon Musk's original announcement (April 2024: ~400 jobs for Grünheide). Musk had wanted to cut >10% worldwide; for Grünheide there were allegedly no mass layoffs planned, only the termination of temporary workers (300) plus voluntary programmes (400). Plant management insisted until the very end that there were no plans for a production halt or staff cuts, despite a 50% drop in new Tesla registrations in Germany (Jan-Sept 2025 vs. the prior year). — Source: https://www.msn.com/de-de/finanzen/top-stories/stellenabbau-bei-tesla-in-gr%C3%BCnheide-1700-mitarbeiter-offenbar-gefeuert/ar-AA1UK4n0

Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt is building a gigafactory in Heide for battery cells with 3,000 jobs. Annual capacity: 60 GWh. Production start planned for 2026. Update (25 Oct 2026): The project was never built. After the groundbreaking in March 2024, Northvolt filed for Chapter 11 protection in the US in November 2024, followed by insolvency proceedings at its Swedish headquarters; the Heide site remained a developed plot without a factory. Since August 2025 US manufacturer Lyten has intended to take over the site, and in June 2026 it agreed a purchase price of about €60m with KfW, the federal government and Schleswig-Holstein; Lyten plans a much smaller project with about 1,000 instead of 3,000 jobs, plus battery storage and a data centre. Completion of the sale is not confirmed in the sources read. The original figures (3,000 jobs, €4.5bn) are therefore obsolete and no longer count towards the headline figures (electrive, 22 Jun 2026 and 30 Jun 2026). — Sources: https://northvolt.com/articles/northvolt-drei/ · https://www.electrive.com/2026/06/22/lyten-to-pay-e60-million-for-northvolt-site-in-heide/ · https://www.electrive.com/2026/06/30/germany-accelerates-northvolt-asset-sale-to-lyten/
