Harzer Schmalspurbahnen has largely completed the refurbishment of the viaduct near Ilfeld, built in 1948 and the longest and highest bridge on its 140.4-kilometre network; the line between Ilfeld Neanderklinik and Eisfelder Talmühle is open to through running again from 1 October 2026. It had been closed since 2 March 2026 (replacement buses), the contract was awarded before Easter and the main works began at the end of April; the Free State of Thuringia funded the project, which is meant to secure the structure for at least five decades. Final works continue without a new closure, and the daily steam service from Nordhausen to the Brocken returns.
Hitachi Rail is putting about EUR 7 million into expanding its Arnstadt site, spread over the current and the next financial year, because digital signalling and safety technology is in greater demand. Existing buildings are being modernised and office space reorganised, which frees up about 1,000 m² of additional production space; more efficient building and air-conditioning technology plus further infrastructure and energy measures are included. Arnstadt is the group's global competence centre for mainline signalling and builds, among other things, electronic interlockings and ETCS technology; the report names no new jobs, and the date is the day of the report.
An arbitration ruling of 9 July definitively seals the closure, announced in January 2026, of the Zalando logistics center in Erfurt in September 2026: around 2,100 employees (1,800 permanent staff, 300 temporary workers) are losing their jobs. Zalando is providing €80 mn for the wind-down, €30 mn of which is for the social plan; according to the works council, the company rejected a transfer company. — Source: https://www.ad-hoc-news.de/wirtschaft/zalando-schliesst-erfurt-2-100-jobs-weg-schiedsspruch-besiegelt/69740273

📉 Zalando to close its Erfurt logistics centre, affecting 2,700 jobs (Germany)

Zalando is closing its logistics centre in Erfurt (its oldest centre) – around 2,700 employees are affected (about a sixth of the total workforce). Reason: a structural realignment of the Europe-wide logistics network following the takeover of About You; some contracts with external service providers are expiring. A new logistics centre with 1,700 jobs is being built in Gießen. The Verdi union and politicians criticise the decision; Zalando plans support and transfer offers. Cross-reference: the closure was sealed by arbitration award on 9 July 2026 (closures entry of 11 July 2026 with the final figure of around 2,100 affected); the figure is carried there and set to null here to avoid double counting. — Source: https://www.stern.de/news/zalando-schliesst-logistikzentrum-in-erfurt---2700-stellen-betroffen-37021806.html
