Medical prosthetics maker Viant announced on 16 Sept 2026 the elimination of 114 of the 229 jobs at its Chaumont (Haute-Marne) site. The trigger is the loss of its largest customer, which accounted for around 85 % of revenue and is insourcing the affected production; the customer was not named. The social plan was due to start on 23 Sept 2026, and the specific positions affected had not yet been identified (France 3 Régions, 17 Sept 2026). — Source: https://france3-regions.franceinfo.fr/grand-est/haute-marne/chaumont/114-licenciements-annonces-dans-une-usine-c-est-lunaire-denonce-un-syndicaliste-3418475.html

🚄 Strasbourg extends tram line F to Wolfisheim (France)

Tram Line F was extended from its former terminus Comtes by 4 km of new track with 8 new, fully accessible stops to Wolfisheim (new terminus "Wolfisheim – Henri Rendu"). The new section connects the Strasbourg districts of Koenigshoffen and Hohberg and the municipalities of Eckbolsheim and Wolfisheim to the city centre and main railway station, and serves the Eckbolsheim/Zénith business park. A multimodal interchange with park-and-ride (103 spaces) and a cycle station was built at the new terminus. Planning started in 2021, construction in 2023, investment around EUR 85 million, service began on 15 November 2025; ridership on Line F is expected to rise by about 35%. Update (17 Nov 2025): The Eurométropole puts the total budget of the extension at EUR 122 million, of which EUR 15 million is a state grant; this differs from the roughly EUR 85 million stated earlier. According to the Eurométropole, almost 20,000 residents and 7,000 employees live or work less than 500 m from one of the eight new stops; for the opening on 15 November 2025 the operator CTS also reorganised the bus network, including the new Chron'hop lines C4 and C5, which are expected to carry 8,000 and 11,500 passengers a day.
🏚️ Helios clinic in Breisach to close, affecting 232 jobs (Germany)

The private Helios clinic (Fresenius Group) is closing on 30 June 2026, with the emergency department already on 31 December 2025. Reason: below-average occupancy (avg. 51 of 123 beds), a lack of a successor chief physician for internal medicine, and new legal requirements from the hospital reform. 232 employees are affected; Helios offers transfers to other sites (Titisee-Neustadt, Müllheim). The city and district want to buy the building for a medical care center (MVZ) with surgery/orthopedics. The citizens' initiative 'Rettet unser Krankenhaus' is protesting against the closure. Update (08.04.2026): The full closure on 30.06.2026 has been averted – the town of Breisach is taking over the hospital from 01.07.2026, becoming its owner again for the first time since 1972 (gesundheitsmarkt.de, 16.04.2026, citing Badische Zeitung of 08.04.2026). — Source: https://www.swr.de/swraktuell/baden-wuerttemberg/suedbaden/schliessung-helios-rosmann-klinik-breisach-am-rhein-102.html

The second construction phase of the LGV Est européenne high-speed line (106 km between Baudrecourt and Vendenheim in the Grand Est region) cost about EUR 2.01 billion, financed equally by the French state (via Afitf) and local authorities, plus RFF, the EU and Luxembourg. It entered service on 3 July 2016 - initially at reduced speed following the Eckwersheim test-train derailment, with full operation from 11 December 2016 - cutting the Paris-Strasbourg journey time to about 1h50. — Source: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGV_Est_europ%C3%A9enne
