Meat group Vion is putting its pig slaughterhouse in Apeldoorn in the Netherlands up for sale and moving slaughtering to its remaining pig sites in Boxtel and Groenlo; the reason is the shrinking Dutch pig herd, which has left Vion with more capacity than it needs. Vion has not named the buyer, and it is unclear whether slaughtering will continue at the site. Around 300 employees are affected, many of whom are expected to stay within the group; a social plan is being negotiated with the unions. According to CEO Tjarda Klimp this completes the restructuring of the Dutch slaughter sites, leaving Boxtel, Groenlo and the Tilburg cattle slaughterhouse (Nieuwe Oogst, 06.10.2026). — Source: https://www.nieuweoogst.nl/nieuws/2026/10/06/krimp-varkenssector-leidt-tot-verkoop-vion-apeldoorn
