After six years of construction SBB, on behalf of the federal government, completed the main works on six projects in the Basel area on schedule, including the expansion of the platform complex at Basel SBB station (an additional platform, a temporary footbridge), the upgrade of the access line from Muttenz and the southern stabling facility; the four-track expansion at Liestal and the Grellingen–Duggingen double track come on top, and the federal government and parliament invested over CHF 1 billion in total. With the timetable change on 14 December 2025 a 15-minute S-Bahn service between Basel and Liestal and half-hourly long-distance trains on Basel–Delémont–Biel/Bienne start, one an hour continuing to Lausanne and the other run by BLS with low-floor trains; it is the biggest service expansion in north-western Switzerland since Rail 2000. The platform expansion in Basel is also a prerequisite for future S-Bahn through-services to Alsace and a 15-minute service between Basel and Aesch.

Deutsche Bahn has finished renovating the station building of Basel Badischer Bahnhof; the work ran from spring 2023 to autumn 2025 and cost about EUR 11.2 million (CHF 10.5 million). Among other things, the sandstone facade, the track-side rendered facades, the glazing of the main roof, arcade and city side, and 6,200 m² of roof were renovated, reusing the old tiles and renewing the loft insulation, in coordination with the cantonal heritage office and the Federal Office of Transport. Step-free access to the platforms was already completed in summer 2024; the station, finished in 1913, serves around 22,000 travellers and visitors a day. The date is a placeholder: DB gives only autumn 2025 as the end of the works, and the day of the completion announcement is used.
