The Tramway du Mont-Blanc has again run for the public since 28 June 2026 as far as the new terminus near the Nid d'Aigle mountain hut at 2,380 m; the official inauguration took place on 27 June 2026. In summer 2023 the Haute-Savoie département began building the missing 300 m of track so that the line ends on level ground in front of the hut instead of on a 20 per cent gradient, and it built a rockfall protection gallery at the tunnel exit. France's highest rack railway was begun in 1906 and opened in 1909, before technical difficulties, costs and the First World War halted the project, which was originally planned to reach the Aiguille du Goûter.
Belgium's Dumarey group plans to close its plant in the Loire department, which makes manual and automatic transmissions for lorries and buses and was taken over from ZF in October 2023, before the end of 2026; all 266 jobs will go. Staff were told on 23.03.2026 at an informal meeting; the site's revenue halved in 2024 with a loss of around €10m, and planned electric and hydrogen drive projects never materialised.
The new Outre-Furan station (formerly "AFPA") opened on 21 January 2026 on the 11.6 km Line T3 of the Saint-Étienne tramway, which runs between Hôpital Nord and Bellevue through the municipalities of Saint-Étienne and Saint-Priest-en-Jarez.
On 27 August 2023 a rockslide (about 15,000 m³ of rock, later joined by another 5,000 m³) at the La Praz cliff in the Maurienne Valley buried a tunnel and damaged the railway between Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne and Modane/Oulx – the main rail link between France and Italy via the Fréjus base tunnel. After roughly 19 months of slope stabilisation (including 3 km of anchor rods and extensive mesh netting) and track reconstruction, SNCF resumed through Paris–Turin/Milan services on 31 March 2025, with Trenitalia following on 1 April 2025. — Source: https://www.ici.fr/infos/transports/eboulement-en-maurienne-la-reouverture-de-la-ligne-sncf-annoncee-pour-mars-2025-13-millions-d-euros-de-travaux-5809020
