The Panama Canal's third set of locks was inaugurated on 26 June 2016 (maiden transit of the container ship Cosco Shipping Panama) and since then has allowed larger Post-Panamax vessels to transit via new locks on both the Atlantic and Pacific sides; total cost approx. USD 5.25 billion.
