On 1 July 2026 Indorama Ventures announced the closure of its Steinfort plant in Luxembourg (right on the Belgian border near Arlon), which specialises in yarns and tyre cord. On 22 July 2026 the unions OGBL and LCGB, the staff delegation and management signed a social plan providing training, retraining and outplacement measures plus above-statutory severance for around 100 employees; the unions published the agreement on 24 July. The trigger was a domino effect: the French upstream plant in Longlaville (Meurthe-et-Moselle) stopped production at the end of June, and Steinfort was also heavily dependent on a single customer. According to OGBL and LCGB it is the largest industrial site closure in Luxembourg since the TDK plant shut in 2007. — Source: https://www.lavenir.net/regions/luxembourg/arlon/2026/07/24/une-usine-proche-darlon-va-etre-fermee-une-centaine-demplois-supprimes-R4I7XY77FNCXXM2J2X36ZQFIU4/

According to a report of 29 January 2026, the Luxembourg rail group CFL is ending the activities of its travel and tourism subsidiary CFL Evasion on 31 March 2026. It justifies the step by the heavy investment in technology, training and infrastructure that the changing tourism market demands, and by CFL Evasion accounting for less than 3% of rail trips sold and so having drifted away from the core business. Trips already booked will go ahead and pass to Travel Group Luxembourg (networks We love to travel and Emile Weber, 13 agencies each); the five employees affected are being offered new roles within the group.
Ten European countries agree to accelerate the expansion of offshore wind farms in the 2030s and to build a power grid in the North Sea – a milestone in transforming the ageing oil basin into a 'clean energy reservoir'. Plan: offshore wind farms with direct connections to various countries via high-voltage submarine cables; 100 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind capacity (enough for 143 million households). Governments pledge to jointly build 5 GW of offshore wind capacity per year from 2031-2040. Over 100 companies signed an industry declaration on cost reduction and the creation of 91,000 jobs. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz: the North Sea is to become the 'largest clean energy reservoir worldwide'. The UK also plans to cooperate with Germany, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands on cross-border offshore projects with joint planning and cost sharing. Transmission system operators are to identify around 20 GW of 'economically promising' cross-border projects by 2027 (including hybrid projects such as a UK wind farm exporting electricity to other countries). — Source: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/jan/26/uk-among-10-countries-to-build-100gw-wind-power-grid-in-north-sea

On 10 November 2025 the state signed an agreement with the nine member municipalities of TICE in the south of the country (including Esch-sur-Alzette, Differdange and Dudelange) that dissolves the intermunicipal association on 1 January 2027 and replaces it with a mixed association of state and municipalities whose governing bodies are split equally. Funding is settled until 2036; the state initially contributes more than EUR 700 million and the municipalities at most EUR 150 million, and the association is to provide efficient public transport in the southern region in line with the future National Mobility Plan 2040. On 14 November 2025 the government council approved the preliminary draft of a law on funding scheduled bus services in the nine municipalities, while the draft on founding the association is still being prepared.
🤝 Saipem and Subsea7 to merge as Saipem7 (Italy / Luxembourg)

Saipem and Subsea7 announced on 23 February 2025 their merger into 'Saipem7' (headquartered in Milan, listed in Milan and Oslo; Subsea7 shareholders receive 6.688 Saipem7 shares per share plus a €450 million special dividend; over 45,000 employees). Added in the 13 September 2026 catch-up run because the case had several milestones in the window: the European Commission opened an in-depth investigation on 22 July 2026 (concerns in the SURF market, deadline 26 November 2026) and stopped the clock from 25 August 2026 to obtain further information from the parties (Offshore Magazine, 11 September 2026). Completion had originally been planned for the second half of 2026. Update (7 Sep 2026): The original Phase II deadline of 26 November 2026 was extended to 16 December 2026 at the parties' request. Because the procedural clock has been stopped since 25 August 2026 with no fixed duration — restarting only once the Commission considers the requested information complete — that date is also considered at risk, and completion could slip into early 2027.
