Sunrise, by its own account Switzerland's second-largest telecoms group, is evaluating the elimination of up to 450 of its current 2,900 full-time positions — just under 16% of its headcount. According to the company statement, a comprehensive realignment of its operating model is under review in order to "anticipate emerging market and technology developments"; in a first phase the company is evaluating a review of supplier contracts alongside the job cuts. The legally required consultation process with employee representatives and the union Syndicom is to take place in the fourth quarter of 2026. Staff in shops, sales and customer service are to be largely exempt and apprentices spared entirely; Sunrise says it will provide further details on the transformation programme once the evaluation is complete. This is a separate programme in addition to the cut of up to 190 positions announced on 8 January 2026 (entry 4896ec6a), whose consultation ended in February/March 2026, when headcount stood at 2,653 full-time positions. (Source: SRF News/AWP, 21 Sep 2026) Update (25 October 2026): the consultation with employee representatives and syndicom has ended: Sunrise will make 358 redundancies instead of the up to 450 originally considered; the social plan was improved, especially for older staff, and a voluntary leaver programme is offered for the first time in selected areas (PCtipp, 25 October 2026). — Sources: https://www.srf.ch/news/schweiz/telekomriese-sunrise-prueft-abbau-von-450-vollzeitstellen · https://www.pctipp.ch/themen/news/sunrise-schliesst-konsultationsverfahren-ab

📉 Sunrise plans to cut up to 190 jobs to simplify its structure (Switzerland)

Sunrise plans to cut up to 190 jobs (around 7% of its workforce of 2,653 employees). The goal is to simplify the company structure (fewer hierarchical levels, larger management spans) and to increase efficiency; numerous managers are affected. A consultation process is under way, and the final figure will be decided after its conclusion (February/March). Apprentices and customer-service staff with direct customer contact are largely exempt; a social plan and support for those affected are planned. Update (5 February 2026): After the consultation, Sunrise is cutting 147 rather than up to 190 jobs, with notices following over the coming months.
