Siemens Mobility is building its first Rail Service Center in Poland at Gądki near Poznań; the depot is due to open in 2027 and to offer light and heavy maintenance for locomotives operating in Poland and in Central and Eastern Europe. The 4,300 m² facility allows up to seven locomotives to be serviced in parallel, has about five km of electrified track and its own test area, and is to run carbon-neutral. Siemens has serviced locomotives in Poland for more than 15 years (over 60 specialists); the report gives no investment figure or new jobs, and partners are the Wielkopolska marshal’s office, the municipality of Kórnik and the Zakłady Kórnickie foundation.
At 0:00 on 10 August 2026 DB InfraGO put into operation a system developed and approved together with Siemens that technically rules out meetings between passenger and freight trains in the tunnels of line 5919 (VDE 8.1) between Unterleiterbach and Erfurt Hbf. It identifies the train type automatically from the ETCS on-board unit, operations control systems and timetable data; this makes mixed operation possible on the high-speed line, where aerodynamic effects in the single-bore tunnels had so far meant that only passenger or only freight trains could run, and additional freight trains can now run especially in the shoulder hours and at night. For this, railway undertakings must accept path offers even in short-notice ad-hoc traffic; the reports give no investment cost.
On 14 May 2026 Siemens Mobility agreed to acquire the core businesses of Italy's MERMEC group: wayside signalling in Italy, electrification, telecommunications and the worldwide diagnostics and data-analytics business built around measurement trains. These units have about 1,700 employees, supply customers in more than 70 countries and generated roughly EUR 430 million in revenue in 2025; seller Angelo Holding keeps AngelStar, Compagnie des Signaux and MERMEC Deutschland, which will continue as Angel Signaling (about 800 employees, order backlog of roughly EUR 2 billion). The parties are not disclosing financial terms, completion is expected at the end of 2026, and Angelo Holding president Vito Pertosa cites his retirement and health as reasons for the sale (LOK Report, 14 May 2026). Update (20.10.2026): On 20 Oct 2026 the European Commission cleared Siemens Mobility Holding's acquisition of sole control of MerMec without competition concerns (case M.12478; LOK Report). — Sources: https://www.lok-report.de/news/deutschland/industrie/siemens-erwerb-der-kerngeschaefte-von-mermec.html · https://www.lok-report.de/news/deutschland/industrie/angel-mer-mec-verkauft-sein-geschaeft-im-bereich-diagnostik-datenanalytik-und-streckensignalisierung-in-italien-an-siemens.html · https://www.lok-report.de/news/europa/europaeische-union/europaeische-union-kommission-genehmigt-uebernahme-von-mermec-durch-siemens.html

On 7 October 2025 SBB awarded the contract to digitise its interlockings to Hitachi, Siemens and Stadler Rail: framework agreements for ten years with three five-year extension options and 25 years of maintenance, with a procurement volume of about CHF 1.4 billion. Individual installations will then be awarded continuously in competition among the three partners; the almost 500 existing interlockings are to be modernised (about half are still relay installations from the 1950s), roughly 80% of them within 20 years, with the first commissioning planned from 2029 and the whole programme lasting about 40 years. Siemens Mobility reported signing its framework agreement in early November 2025 (Signaling X concept, with interlocking logic moved into central data centres); SBB put the final signing with all three firms in the week before 17 December 2025 and stressed that most of the value added arises in Switzerland.
