<summary>SBB is transferring SBB Cargo AG into SBB AG for accounting purposes as of 1 January 2027 and will run it together with SBB Cargo International (75 per cent owned by SBB AG) and ChemOil Logistics (100 per cent) as the Freight division; employees move to SBB AG on 1 June 2027 without any change to their terms of employment. This completes the process begun in 2023 with the full takeover of SBB Cargo; the goal remains self-sustaining freight operations by 2033. The half-year report for 2026 shows freight breaking even for the first time in a long while, with a result of CHF 2 million. <summary>SBB is restructuring its single-wagonload freight business from the timetable change on 13 December 2026: about 50 of today's roughly 280 service points with too little demand will no longer be served in single-wagonload traffic (but will still be served on customer request as block trains), while volumes are meant to stay at 98 per cent of current levels. About 200 employees are affected (roughly 130 in German-speaking Switzerland, 40 in Ticino and 30 in western Switzerland), mostly through a change of workplace according to SBB, with dismissals said to remain the exception. The SEV union, which had already demanded a halt to the planned cuts on 10 March 2026, criticises the sixth tranche of the G-enesis reorganisation and warns of the loss of dozens of jobs in cargo production.
