Hitachi Rail is putting about EUR 7 million into expanding its Arnstadt site, spread over the current and the next financial year, because digital signalling and safety technology is in greater demand. Existing buildings are being modernised and office space reorganised, which frees up about 1,000 m² of additional production space; more efficient building and air-conditioning technology plus further infrastructure and energy measures are included. Arnstadt is the group's global competence centre for mainline signalling and builds, among other things, electronic interlockings and ETCS technology; the report names no new jobs, and the date is the day of the report.
Hitachi Rail has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Clever Devices, a supplier of fleet-management and passenger-information technology for transit agencies based in Woodbury (New York), with more than 600 employees and 2026 revenue expected to exceed USD 220 million (about EUR 190 million). Its customers include eight of the ten largest North American transit operators; Hitachi plans to integrate the technology into its HMAX Mobility platform and to grow beyond rail into multimodal mobility and in North America. No purchase price is disclosed, and completion is expected later this year once regulatory approvals are in (LOK Report, 7 Apr 2026). Update (1 Jul 2026): Hitachi Rail has completed the acquisition of Clever Devices (Hitachi Rail, press release, 1 Jul 2026). — Sources: https://www.lok-report.de/news/deutschland/industrie/hitachi-rail-endgueltige-vereinbarung-zur-uebernahme-von-clever-devices.html · https://news.hitachirail.com/hitachi-rail-completes-acquisition-of-clever-devices-expanding-its-portfolio-of-multi-modal-transport-solutions
