City Rail Link is a 3.45 km underground rail tunnel with two new stations beneath central Auckland; total cost around NZD 5.5 billion, with opening announced for the second half of 2026. European involvement is documented at the industrial level: French company VINCI (via VINCI Construction Grands Projets and subsidiary Soletanche Bachy) is main contractor on two of the construction packages, and the tunnel boring machine used was supplied by German manufacturer Herrenknecht. Update (7 Oct 2026): The City Rail Link opened to passengers on Sunday 13 September 2026, with the new stations Te Waihorotiu, Karanga-a-Hape and Maungawhau; the first weekday timetable applied from 14 September. About 14,300 people used the rail network on the first day; a small cable fire forced the evacuation of Waitematā station in the morning and caused delays until midday (Auckland Transport, 6 Aug 2026; The Spinoff, 14 Sep 2026). — Sources: https://www.cityraillink.co.nz/contracts-partners · https://at.govt.nz/about-us/news-events/media-centre/2026-media-releases/all-aboard-what-you-need-to-know-about-city-rail-link-opening-13-september · https://thespinoff.co.nz/the-bulletin/13-09-2026/city-rail-link-finally-opens-a-century-in-the-making-a-fire-on-day-one

The Eurasia Tunnel is a 5.4 km double-deck road tunnel beneath the Bosphorus, opened 20 December 2016, connecting Istanbul's European and Asian sides. It was built by the Turkish-South Korean ATAŞ consortium (Yapı Merkezi / SK E&C); German firm Herrenknecht AG supplied the specialized TBM for the underwater section. The EIB and EBRD together contributed USD 500 million in financing, giving the project documented European involvement in both industry and finance. — Source: https://www.ebrd.com/home/news-and-events/news/2012/new-bosphorus-tunnel-in-istanbul-will-connect-europe-and-asia.html
