Regionalverkehre Start Deutschland GmbH was fully integrated into DB Regio AG on 1 August 2026, as decided by the DB Regio board at the start of the year, and has since operated under the DB Regio name. The traffic contracts passed to DB Regio and the staff of the regional units were taken over one-to-one into DB Regio's divisions; the aim is more stable and more economical operations, and DB Regio is already backing individual regions with additional train drivers. The reports give no figures on the size of the company or on savings.
DB Regio receives about EUR 2.64 million from Thuringia's 2021-2027 ERDF programme to modernise and expand its Erfurt depot for servicing battery-electric trains. The plans cover charging infrastructure, adapted equipment and storage for traction batteries and spare parts, ahead of the planned launch of the Central Thuringia battery network on 15 December 2028. For the first time, 13 per cent of Thuringia's rail network will be served by battery trains; the report gives neither total cost nor new jobs (LOK Report, 15 Jul 2026). — Source: https://www.lok-report.de/news/deutschland/aus-den-laendern/thueringen-ausbau-der-db-regio-werkstatt-erfurt.html

On 11 May 2026 DB Regio presented the converted maintenance area at its Kaiserslautern depot, which was turned from a pure diesel workshop into a battery-train site for EUR 6 million (hall extended by 5 m, two new work bays, a battery container, new lifting and wheelset-change systems). It will service 44 Stadler FLIRT battery trains for the Pfalznetz; about 300 drivers are being trained, Stadler expects passenger approval in August and regular service is planned from autumn on Neustadt–Karlsruhe. The state is supporting the electrification of the Pfalznetz with about EUR 33 million (LOK Report, 11 May 2026). Update (11 May 2026): DB Regio's Kaiserslautern depot has been expanded into a maintenance site for the battery trains; passenger service still awaits approval of the trains.
