Alstom has leased in full, and already moved into, a new 31,200 m² logistics property built by developer Garbe Industrial in Salzgitter, where the rolling-stock maker stores and distributes spare parts and new parts for locomotives and trains. Garbe invested about EUR 40 million; the building was completed in the first quarter of 2026 on a 51,000 m² brownfield site of a former munitions factory that Garbe took over from Alstom four years earlier and cleared of ordnance and contamination. Nine doors at the rear allow side unloading of bulky rail components; the hall is heated by district heating, the roof is prepared for photovoltaics and Garbe is aiming for DGNB Gold certification. The report names no new jobs, and the date is the day of the report.
Phase 2 of the Washington Metro Silver Line (11.5-mile extension to Dulles International Airport, six new stations, approx. USD 3 billion) opened on November 15, 2022; the main design-build contractor for construction/systems was the Capital Rail Constructors joint venture (Clark Construction/Kiewit, US/Canada). However, the train control technology came from two European suppliers: Alstom (France) for Phase 1 and Ansaldo-STS/Hitachi Rail STS (Italy) for Phase 2; per WTOP reporting based on MWAA/WMATA documents, Alstom had to verify and sign off on compatibility/integration at the Wiehle-Reston East interface, causing years of delay. — Source: https://wtop.com/tracking-metro-24-7/2020/03/wiehle-tie-in-how-the-silver-line-got-held-up/
